PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon University women's volleyball team (6-21) battled in a five set victory over UMass Lowell (4-26).
GCU was able to pick up a close 25-23 win in the opening set before UML answered with a 25-20 win. The Lopes won the third 25-18, but fell in the third 25-23, before closing out the match with a decisive 15-6 fifth set.
Freshman
Melody Horton had a spectacular 27 kills in the match—trouncing her career high of 17 against UTRGV earlier this season. Her stellar night featured a .462 hitting percentage off of 52 attempts with only three errors, allowing her to contribute 30 points to the Lopes' win.
For assists,
Randahl Powers had 37 for a total of 329 this season. She averages 6.21 per game, ranking her eighth in conference this season.
Emily Vitel had 21 digs tonight while competing in the libero slot.
The Lopes had their best full set in the third with a .370 percentage, while also earning a decisive .417 in the fifth. They had 14 kills in both the first and third sets.
