PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon University women's volleyball (7-21) closed out their season with a three set victory over UMass Lowell (4-27).
GCU picked up the win 25-15, 25-22, and 25-9.
Melody Horton and
Natalie Tardy each had 13 kills in the match. Tardy had a .345 hitting percentage while Horton had a .212. In addition to Horton's strong performance on offense this weekend, her play was also accented by her serving consistency. In the third set, she served 10 straight points, taking GCU from a 6-4 lead to 16-4.
Randahl Powers collected 32 assists, having a total of 69 this weekend. It took her season total to 361--an average of 6.45 per set.
Emily Vitel had 11 digs, followed closely by Horton's 10. Emily Aranda had four block assists during the game and six kills.
GCU had their strongest set in the third, hitting over .500 (.519) and forcing errors by the Redhawks who had a negative hitting percentage in two of the three sets.
For the season, the team collected 1074 kills, 994 assists, 1369 digs, and 114 aces. Tardy led the team with 253 kills this season, while
Michelle Steagall had 489 assists.
Haley Glass had 289 digs and still ranks second in conference in digs per set.
