PHOENIX - The Grand Canyon athletic department recently hosted an etiquette dinner for 32 GCU student-athletes at Grand Canyon University Arena.
The evening was a formal affair as GCU student-athletes convened for dinner and a presentation on the finer details of business and personal etiquette. A mock-tail meet-and-greet session kicked off the evening, allowing students the opportunity to practice their best networking skills.
"We are committed to identifying opportunities to help our student-athletes develop off the field," said Jason Linders, the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Development. "The student-athlete etiquette dinner is an important part of our efforts to make sure that our students are prepared for job interviews and other situations they will soon experience down the road."
The evening touched on the specifics of dinner etiquette, from the placement of silverware and plates to how to properly shake hands and how to tie a tie.
"I really enjoyed the opportunity to learn some helpful tips to take with me into important dinner situations in the future," junior golfer and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president Brittany Holen said. "I am grateful that our athletic department here at GCU works hard to make sure student-athletes are prepared to succeed in the classroom, on the field, and life beyond graduation. Nights like this remind me of how special this university truly is and how much I love being a Lope."
