Former Angel's MiLB Trainer Spence Joins Grand Canyon Staff

PHOENIX -- Gregory Spence was hired as an assistant athletic trainer on the GCU Sports Medicine staff on Oct. 12, 2015, Director of Sports Medicine Geordie Hackett announced. Spence's primary responsibilities will be dealing with the baseball and men's golf teams.Â

Spence came to the Lopes after spending seven seasons as an athletic trainer within the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim system, at levels ranging from Rookie Ball to Double A. He served as both a strength and conditioning coach and athletic trainer with the A's. During the offseason, Spence returned to the Phoenix area to work as an athletic trainer at Physiotherapy Associates, Tempe Sport Clinic, in Tempe.
As a student at James Madison, Spence assisted for the care of the football, baseball and women's soccer teams while earning his undergraduate degree in athletic training. He went on to earn his graduate degree in educational leadership at Nevada. While completing his graudate assistantship in Reno, he was charged with overseeing for the care of the women's track and field and swimming and diving teams, and assisted the football team.
