Haughian Highlights GCU's Performance at Borah Duals

The Grand Canyon University wrestling team competed in the Tracy Borah Duals today in Gunnison Colo. They opened the day with a tough 20-17 loss to CSU-Pueblo before losing 32-12 to both California Baptist and Western State.

The highlight of the day was redshirt-junior Marcus Haughian earning wins in each of his matchups, competing at 197 in the first two matches before switching to 285 against Western State. He was victorious against California Baptist, defeating Paul Head with a fall at 6:06, before earning the technical fall against CSU-Pueblo's Marcus Finau. He closed out the competition with a 1-0 decision over Western State's Peter Anguiano.

Sophomore Austin Solari and junior Chayse Jackson both finished the day 2-1. Solari won his dual against CSU-Pueblo 2-0 before defeating Western State's Tyler Adams with a fall at the seven-minute mark. Jackson extended his match against CSU-Pueblo to a second tiebreaker where he finished the match 5-3. Later, he won his match over Western State 3-2.

The Lopes will return home on Jan. 18 for a doubleheader, facing Embry-Riddle at 6 p.m. and Bakersfield at 8 p.m. in GCU Arena. The match can also be followed by a live webcast at www.gculopes.com.
