Grand Canyon University senior Jessica Yates has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 Track/Cross Country team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
As a first team selection, Yates will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, which will be decided in June.
Yates, who hails from Snohomish, Wash., is pursuing her master's of business administration and currently boasts a 3.85 GPA in the classroom. In addition to her academic excellence.
The Washington State transfer saved her best for last in 2014, recording a season-best leap of 12.40 meters in the triple jump to take home top honors in the event at the outdoor championships in Orem, Utah. She notched a second-place finish in the high jump, tying her own school record height of 1.68 meters. Yates also contributed in the long jump, taking seventh in the event to aid the Canyon leapers.
At the indoor championships in March, Yates took home a pair of second-place finishes in the high jump and triple jump to lead the charge in the field events for the Antelopes. She exits as the school record holder in the indoor and outdoor high jump.
