GAME NOTES
VS. OMAHA
This is the first meeting between Omaha and Grand Canyon. The Mavericks are also making the transition to the Division I level after previously spending time in Division II.
THE LAST SERIES
The 'Lopes went 0-3 as part of the Bourland-Ardoin Classic hosted by Abilene Christian at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene, Tex. GCU was slated to play three games against ACU, but poor weather in the Midwest switched the format to a four-team, three-day tournament. The 'Lopes lost twice to reigning Big 12 Conference Champion Kansas State, who last season advanced to the Corvallis Super Regional of the NCAA Tournament. GCU also fell to the host Wildcats 3-2 in their first extra-inning (10) affair of the season.
PEREZ ON THE MOUND
Jorge Perez tossed his first complete game of the season, seventh career, in GCU's 8-1 win in their home-opener versus Hofstra on Feb. 21. In his first start in 2014, Perez racked up a career-best 10 strikeouts over 7.0 innings of work in the season opener on Feb. 14 at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
DE LA GUERRA WITH THE BAT
Second baseman Chad De La Guerra is batting .395 (17-for-43) in 11 games with 3 doubles, a triple, home run, and team-best 11 RBI. His RBI total is tied for third-best in the Western Athletic Conference, while his 17 hits are tied for second. De La Guerra has collected a hit in eight of his 11 games and has reached base in 10 contests.
