Grand Canyon University track and field student-athletes
Ramon Cooper and
Shavine Hodges were today recognized with 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Men's and Women's Track/ Cross Country honors, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Cooper garnered Second Team accolades, while Hodges was a Third Team selection.
Cooper garnered All-American status in the long jump for both the indoor and outdoor seasons, finishing third at the outdoor championships and fifth at the indoor championships in the event. The business administration major was tabbed as a three-time USTFCCCA All-Region selection for the indoor and outdoor seasons as well.
At the PacWest Championships, he was a member of the winning 4x400-meter relay team, and finished third in the high jump and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles and long jump.
Hodges shared Pacific West Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Year honors with Academy of Art's Vashti Thomas. The Biology (pre-med) major was a four- time All-American at the outdoor championships, collecting top-eight finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes and 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays. She was also a four-time USTFCCCA All-Region selection in those same events and carried the second-fastest times in the country in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes into the national championships.
Hodges was named Female Track Athlete of the Meet at the PacWest Conference Championships with two individual victories in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes and serving as a leg in both winning relays to add 25 points to the team total.
She was a two-time All-American for the 2013 indoor season and a three-time USTFCCCA All-Region honoree.
Hodges also earned Capital One Academic All-District honors last season.
