PREVIEW: MIVA Semifinals

After achieving a milestone victory at Ohio State in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Saturday, Grand Canyon looks to another milestone Wednesday.
At Ohio State, Grand Canyon (17-14) won its first-ever MIVA Quarterfinal Tournament match, while getting its first win over a nationally-ranked team and first win over Ohio State in a 3-2 win over the No. 11 Buckeyes. GCU was previously 0-8 against Ohio State.
The next test for the ’Lopes is No. 9 Lewis in Romeoville, Ill., in one of two MIVA semifinal matches. Ball State takes on host Loyola-Chicago in the other. The winners meet at the higher seed Saturday for the MIVA title and berth into the NCAA Final Four.
Along with looking for a first trip to the MIVA title match, GCU will be looking for a first-ever win over Lewis. The Antelopes are 0-8 against the Flyers, losing twice this season in Phoenix, by 3-1 and 3-2 scores. In the 3-2 loss, GCU won the first two sets 25-21, 25-20 before dropping the last three 19-25, 23-25 and 6-15.
