The Grand Canyon University women’s tennis team fell 6-1 to the University of Arizona today at the Robson Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.
The loss drops the Antelopes to 8-2 overall, the Wildcats improved to 8-5.
“The girls played great today,” said head coach Greg Prudhomme. “I was proud of the effort and performance. The score would indicate that we were far from getting the win, but this will help prepare us for the rest of the season. This is gives us a taste of what it will be like to face a top Division I team next season. The highlight was
Lana Macukat taking her match at No. 3 and pulling out that first set tie break.”
Macukat’s victory at No.3 was highlighted by her 8-6 first set tiebreak win. She cruised to a 6-1 win in the second.
The match was played under D-I rules where the doubles round was worth one point overall.
In the doubles, GCU battled tough in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, losing 8-4 in both.
The women will be back on the court on March 8 in Los Angeles when they play Fresno Pacific for the second time this season. GCU defeated FPU 6-3 on Feb. 10 in Glendale, Ariz.
