Grand Canyon’s trip to the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., for the Beach Collegiate Challenge ended with a 5-0 loss to No. 9 Nebraska Sunday.
In its inaugural season, GCU (0-6) has already competed against five of the top 10 ranked teams in the nation and will invite another to GCU on March 23-24, when the Antelopes entertain No. 5 Hawai’i and Loyola Marymount. Matches on March 23 will be played at GCU. The March 24 competition will be at Victory Lanes Sports Park.
“We want to play the best teams and see where we need to be,” said GCU coach Kris Naber. “We know we have to be patient. We’re teaching them the right way and we have to get better at the little things.
“We understand that we’re being competitive, but we’re continuing to work on finishing the match.”
Against the Cornhuskers, the No. 1 team of
Kristen Johannsen and
Mackenzie Phelps extended the match to a third set before losing 21-13, 19-21, 15-9.
