The Grand Canyon University men’s tennis team fell this afternoon, 5-3, to Azusa Pacific at Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz.
The loss drops GCU to 4-1, while APU improved to 6-0.
The Antelopes, ranked 10
th in the nation and 2
nd in the west region, took a 2-1 lead after the doubles round.
Felix Schueller and
Alexander Roggenkamp picked up an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, defeating APU’s team of Frederik Wilkens and Gary Yam, ranked 24
th in the D-II.
Ramon Abaitua and
Yann Kaelin won 8-6 in the No. 3 position.
Azusa took four of the five singles points today, featuring a lineup that had three nationally ranked and four regionally ranked players.
Roggenkamp ran his singles record to a perfect 5-0 with a three set win at No. 5. After dropping the opening set, Roggenkamp won 6-4 in the second and clinched the point with a 10-5 match tiebreak win.
The weekend for the Antelopes will conclude tomorrow with both the men and women facing Fresno Pacific. Both matches against FPU will begin at noon at Paseo.
