The Grand Canyon University women’s basketball team is ranked 24
th in the latest Women’s Basketball Coaches Association poll, as released today. GCU was 19
th in last week’s rankings.
The Antelopes fell in their lone contest last week, dropping a close 64-63 game to Hawai’i Pacific at GCU Arena. GCU owns a 21-6 overall record and 13-3 mark in the Pacific West Conference. The ‘Lopes are currently tied for the top spot in the conference with California Baptist.
The ‘Lopes are led by
Judy Jones, who ranks fourth in the country with 17 double-doubles as she is averaging 15.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
Maylinn Smith is averaging a team-high 30.0 minutes while also scoring an average of double figures at 12.3 points per game.
As a whole, the ‘Lopes rank second nationally with a 13.3 rebound margin and 13
th with a 15.2 scoring margin. Among PacWest member schools, GCU is first with a 54.2 scoring defense, 32.9 rebounding defense, and 13.3 rebound margin.
GCU will conclude the home portion of their regular season schedule tonight when they host BYU-Hawaii at 4:30 p.m. The final game for the ‘Lopes prior to the inaugural PacWest Conference Tournament will be on Saturday at Azusa Pacific.
