No. 15 Grand Canyon improved to 12-1 on the season and 2-1 in the Pacific West Conference with a 3-0 victory over Chaminade at McCabe Gym in Honolulu, Saturday.
GCU won by set scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-22.
The Antelopes have won two straight and are 2-0 on their PacWest Hawai’i road trip. They have two matches in Hawai’i remaining, including Monday’s 10:30 p.m. (Arizona Time) contest against No. 14 BYU-Hawai’i.
The Antelopes will play at Hawai’i Pacific Tuesday at 10 p.m.
Against the Silverswords (4-7, 1-2), GCU was led by junior middle blockers
Kristen Johannsen and
Lanie Muys. The pair combined for 20 kills, one solo block and nine block assists. Johannsen had 12 kills and a .647 attack percentage to go with a solo block and four assists. Muys had eight kills, a .333 average and four block assists.
Senior setter
Kristen Preach filled the stat sheet with eight kills, a .571 hitting percentage, 38 assists, eight digs, one solo block and two block assists.
Senior outside hitter
Janae Giles had 11 kills and sophomore libero
Mackenzie Phelps, the PacWest leader in digs, had 18 digs in the three-set victory.
“After having a couple of days off (after the win at Hilo), it was great to get back in the gym and perform like we did,” said GCU coach Kris Naber. “We were challenged tonight, but the girls did a nice job executing the game plan against Chaminade. This match gave our entire group an opportunity to prepare for Monday night against BYU.”

Jessica Posse had the Antelopes’ lone service ace and six digs.
As a team, the Antelopes had 10 blocks and hit .276 for the match and a match-best .316 with 18 kills in the third.
