Hodges Garners Capital One Academic All-America Honors

Grand Canyon University sophomore Shavine Hodges today was named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America NCAA Division II Track and Field /Cross Country Third Team, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The award recognizes top student-athletes throughout the country in their respective sports.
“Shavine is truly a remarkable young lady,” said head coach Tom Flood. “She is the epitome of a student-athlete; she works extremely hard both in the classroom and on the track. I would love to have a team full of student-athletes like Shavine.”
Hodges was honored after recently finishing as the runner-up in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at the 2012 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Pueblo, Colo., where the women’s squad took fifth place overall. The Biology major also placed second in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes at the indoor championships in March.
Hodges is an eight-time All-American in her two seasons at Grand Canyon. She also earned four United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region Awards for both the 2012 indoor and outdoor seasons and two for the 2011 indoor season.
