The Grand Canyon University men’s and women’s track and field teams completed the second day of action at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships today at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl in Pueblo, Colo.
The Antelopes competed in final events in the women’s pole vault and triple jump and preliminaries in the men’s and women’s 200-meter dash, women’s 100-meter hurdles, men’s 110-meter hurdles and the women’s 4x400-meter relay.
Following the two days of competition at the championships, the women’s team moved into fourth place with 18 points. Grand Valley State, the defending outdoor champion, continued to lead the way for the women with 56 points.
The men’s squad did not compete in any finals today and is now in seventh place with 14 points. Western State took the lead with 38 total points.
Amber Yingling and
Jessica Yates both qualified for the finals of the women’s triple jump and finished fourth and seventh respectively. On her very first jump of the meet, Yingling posted a new personal-record with a leap of 12.70 meters (41 feet, eight inches). Yates leaped 12.37 meters (40 feet, seven inches) to also claim a spot on the podium. That mark was also a personal-best for Yates.
Brittany Warren tied for fifth place in the women’s pole vault with a mark of 3.75 meters (12 feet, three and a half inches).
Shavine Hodges, who yesterday qualified for the 100-meter dash finals, posted a qualifying mark in the 200-meter dash with at time of 23.70 seconds, the fifth-best today.
Tyler Sipes qualified for the finals in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.01 seconds. That time is the fastest he has run the event this season.
The final day of action is slated to get underway tomorrow at 10:15 a.m. Arizona time. All events tomorrow are finals. The men's pole vault competition has been moved up to 9:30 a.m. Arizona time due to weather concerns.
Events that GCU will be competing in include: men’s pole vault, women’s 4x100-meter relay, men’s triple jump, women’s 400-meter dash, men’s and women’s 100-meter dashes, women’s 200-meter dash and men’s 110-meter hurdles.
Overall, the Antelopes have 17 athletes participating in the championships in 20 individual events and two relays.
