The Grand Canyon University men's and women's track and field teams completed their Southern California swing last night when they finished action at the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State University in California. The Antelopes added to both qualifying marks by collecting four automatic and 10 provisional marks.
Among those competing in the meet were Kent State, New Mexico, Kansas State, UC Riverside, Texas Tech, Grand Valley State and Colorado State, among several other schools and unattached athletes in what is one of the largest meets in Southern California.
Dominique Hubert had an NCAA Division II Outdoor automatic qualifying mark in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.32 seconds, the fastest in the nation this season.
AAron Hill used a mark of 7.64 meters to post his second automatic qualifying mark in the men's long jump. He had previously jumped 7.68 meters at the Baldy Castillo Invitational on March 16.
Karlin Stewart also had an automatic mark in the long jump with an outdoor personal-best leap of 7.58 meters. Hill's first automatic mark is the second-best among Division II athletes this season, while Stewart now owns the fourth-best leap.
Stewart had a provisional mark in the triple jump after posting a leap of 14.85 meters.
Kevin Lashley also posted a provisional mark in the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.62 meters.
Petra Fanty posted GCU's second automatic mark of the day after running the 400-meter dash in a personal-best time of 54.58 seconds.
Tyler Sipes had his best run of the outdoor season in the 110-meter hurdles after posting a provisional time of 14.16 seconds, just .04 seconds off the automatic qualifier.
Ann-Marie Duffus posted a provisional mark in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.78 seconds.
Sarah Stemm, who ran the event in 14.35 seconds, also posted a provisional mark.
Stemm also had a provisional time in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 1:00.87.
In the men's 400-meter hurdle event,
Clark Coyle posted a provisional mark of 53.02 seconds.
Brittany Warren, who had just posted an outdoor personal-best in the pole vault with a mark 3.70 meters, outdid herself again, this time reaching 3.77 meters which is also a provisional mark and was the top performance in the event.
Vince Frawley had a provisional mark in the men's pole vault with 4.97 meters. He already owns an automatic mark in the event.
Following the first six meets of the outdoor season, the 'Lopes have collected eight automatic qualifiers and 82 provisional marks as Hill and Stewart (long jump), Frawley (pole vault), Duffus (long jump) and Fanty (400-meter dash) have each posted automatic marks in their respective events.
The 'Lopes will next be in action when they travel to Irvine, Calif., for the Steve Scott Invitational hosted by UC Irvine at Anteater Stadium on April 28-29.
