The 13
th-ranked Grand Canyon University women’s tennis team captured third place with a 5-1 victory over Academy of Art in the PacWest Championship third-place match today at the Marlin Tennis Club in San Rafael, Calif.
The Antelopes (15-8) jumped out to a 2-1 lead with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Katharina Mittag and
Frederique Van de Velde won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, while
Justine Majan and
Cecilia Vergnet won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
Majan and Vergnet picked up their second wins of the day at No. 3 and 6 singles, respectively.
Priscilla Annoual cruised in the top singles slot to close out the match.
Grand Canyon now awaits the NCAA Selection Show on April 24 at 5:30 p.m. to learn their postseason fate. The show can be viewed live at
www.ncaa.com. GCU currently is holding on to the all-important third position in the NCAA West Region (BYU-Hawai’i is No. 1 and HPU No. 2). The top three teams in the region will qualify for the NCAA Postseason with the No. 3 seed traveling to face the No. 2 seed in the opening round.
