The Grand Canyon University women’s tennis team rebounded this afternoon to defeat Dixie State, 9-0, at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz.
The win improved the Antelopes’ overall record to 1-1.
“I’m very proud of the effort the ladies showed this afternoon,” said head coach Greg Prudhomme. “It was their second match of the day and they spent a lot of effort and emotion this morning. Sometimes when you have a second match in the same day you can come out a little lethargic. The girls took this match really serious and were mentally ready to go. They showed a great attitude and a lot of class.”
The ladies dropped only 12 games over the course of the match.
Justine Majan and
Cecilia Vergnet won their No.3 doubles match, 8-1. Majan then won her No. 4 singles match, 6-0 6-1, to finish 3-1 for the day.
Priscilla Annoual shined in her singles match, winning 6-0, 6-0.
The GCU women and men return to the court tomorrow, Feb. 9 at 9 a.m. to face Hawai’i Hilo at the Paseo Racquet Center.
“We will be ready for another tough match tomorrow,” said Prudhomme. “Both the men and the women from Hilo are scrappers.”
