“It was another milestone match for the GCU tennis program,” said head coach Greg Prudhomme. “It’s the first time our men's team has defeated Point Loma and it’s the first time in my years as the women's coach that they have beat them. To get both of those wins on the same day was fantastic. Point Loma is always one of the best teams in the NAIA division. Coming to sea level and beating these tough teams on the road is a great confidence builder for our teams.”
The men defeated the NAIA’s seventh-ranked Sea Lions, 9-0.
Patrice Giraldi, playing at No. 2 singles, won a tough three-set match over the Sea Lions’ Gregory De Andrade. It was Giraldi’s sixth-straight win. De Andrade entered the match ranked No. 28 in the NAIA.
Bastien Tonus also picked up his sixth-straight victory, winning in straight sets at the No. 5 singles.
