The No. 23 Grand Canyon University men’s tennis team defeated Sonoma State, 7-2, today at the SSU Tennis Courts in Rohnert Park, Calif.
The win improves the ‘Lopes overall record to 10-6.
“The men played well on the road and won with a better score this time around than the first time we played them,” said head coach Greg Prudhomme. “It's great to see the improvement that the team has made during the season. They were happy to play well today and will use the momentum to help gear up for a tough contest against UCSD tomorrow.”
GCU opened the match in dominate fashion, sweeping all three doubles matches.
Schoelzel won in straight sets in the No. 1 singles match, 6-2, 6-3. He is now 14-1 this season.
The men’s team will be in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. where they will face No. 10 UC-San Diego. They will face Hawai’i Hilo on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Both matches will be played at the SSU Tennis Courts on the campus of Sonoma State.
