The Grand Canyon University women’s tennis team saw their bid for a spot in the Pacific West Conference Championship fall short today, losing 5-0 in their semifinal match to Hawai’i Pacific in Laie, Hawai’i.
The third-seeded Antelopes will next face fifth-seeded Chaminade in a match for third place. First serve tomorrow is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (AZ time) in Laie.
“The girls played well, but HPU was better today,” said head coach Greg Prudhomme. “We almost went into the doubles at 1-2 with a narrow loss in the three spot. It was a little too much to ask to be able to come from behind 3-0 two days in a row. The girls are determined to improve on the conference finish in the future, but are looking forward to playing for third place tomorrow.”
Grand Canyon, ranked No. 15 nationally and No. 3 in the west region, will face Chaminade for the second time this season. The Antelopes defeated the Silverswords, 6-3, at the Paseo Racquet Center on Feb. 13 in Glendale, Ariz.
