The Grand Canyon University men’s tennis team continued their hot play today, defeating Hawai’i Hilo, 8-1, at the Central Oahu Regional Park in Waipahu, Hawai’i.
Grand Canyon, ranked No. 42 in the nation and No. 4 in the west, improved to 9-5 with their fourth straight win.
“It was an especially good win today because the guys had to re-focus after having a great win yesterday,” said head coach Greg Prudhomme. “They did a good job taking care of business against a fighting group from Hilo. The entire GCU team did a great job by setting the tone in sweeping the doubles for the second straight day.”
Frederic Schoelzel picked up a pair of wins today, also extending his undefeated singles record to 13-0.
Stephane Murray improved to 12-1 in singles play with his straight sets win.
The team completes its three-game, three-day Hawaiian trip tomorrow with a match that has critical NCAA Tournament implications against No. 25 Hawai’i Pacific at 1 p.m. (AZ Time) at the Central Oahu Regional Park. HPU is currently ranked No. 2 in the west region. Only the top two teams in the west region receive bids into the NCAA Tournament.
