With a berth into the NCAA Division II Elite 8 on the line, No. 7 Grand Canyon (29-2) takes on No. 23 Cal Poly Pomona (27-4) in the NCAA West Region Championship at Kellogg Gym in Pomona tonight. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
Pomona is the tournament's No. 1 seed. GCU is No. 2.
Along with being a battle of the two best teams, it will be a battle of the two best players. Pomona senior guard Reyana Colson was named the Daktronics West Region Player of the Year. GCU star
Samantha Murphy was second in the voting. The pair ranks No. 1 and No. 2 in the nation in scoring. Murphy leads the nation with a 24.6 average. Colson averages 21.3.
Monday's winner will take on the winner of the game between Central Oklahoma (22-9) and Northwest Missouri State (26-4) in an Elite 8 game in St. Joseph's, Missouri on March 22.
