Grand Canyon (11-6, 5-4) had five hitters with double-figure kills and hit .356 as a team in a 3-1 Pacific West Conference victory over Dominican University of California (0-15, 0-6) in San Rafael, Calif. Wednesday.
GCU won by set scores of 25-5, 25-11, 16-25, 25-20.
Sophomore outside hitter
Caelen Hiller had 17 kills and a .484 average. Junior middle hitter
Shelby Taylor had 10 kills, a .529 average and two solo blocks. Senior right side hitter
Brooke Blomenkamp and junior outside hitter
Janae Giles each had 11 kills. Senior middle hitter
Stephanie McBride had 10 kills.
Junior setter
Kristen Preach had 49 assists and 15 digs. Freshman libero
Mackenzie Phelps had 23 digs.
GCU had 62 kills and only 15 errors in 132 attempts. McBride hit .368 and Blomenkamp hit .346. McBride added two service aces, a solo block and a block assist. Blomenkamp added seven digs and two service aces. Giles had nine digs. Preach also had a service ace.
Sophomore right side hitter
Megan Davis added eight digs.
It was Grand Canyon’s third straight win overall and on its five-match road trip. To wrap up the trip, GCU takes on Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont, Calif. Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
