Grand Canyon (12-6, 6-4) won its fourth straight match with a 3-0 triumph against Notre Dame de Namur (2-19, 2-7) in a Pacific West Conference contest in Belmont, Calif., Friday.
GCU won by set scores of 30-28, 25-18, 25-21.
In the first set, GCU trailed 22-20 and rallied back and had ties at 22, 24, 25 and 26 before scoring the final two points of the set. An NDNU service error was followed by a block from seniors
Brooke Blomenkamp and
Stephanie McBride to end the set.
It was a balanced GCU attack. In fact -- in the third set win -- four different players had finishing points to break an 18-18 tie and put the ’Lopes in control. It started with a kill from junior setter
Kristen Preach, McBride followed with a service ace and junior middle hitter
Shelby Taylor and junior outside hitter
Janae Giles each had kills.
McBride finished with 11 kills, two solo blocks and five block assists. She had a .273 attack percentage. Blomenkamp had 10 kills, 11 digs, four block assists and hit .250. Freshman libero
Mackenzie Phelps finished with 24 digs. Preach had 35 assists and Giles added 12 digs.
Taylor had eight kills and only one error in 14 tries for a .500 hitting percentage. Giles also had eight kills and two service aces. Sophomore outside hitter
Caelen Hiller had seven kills and 10 digs. GCU hit .231 as a team.
