SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- For the second straight match, Grand Canyon dropped a five-set contest to Pacific West Conference foe Academy of Art at Kezar Pavilion.
In its third match on a four-game trip, GCU (4-10, 0-3) lost 20-25, 26-24, 25-20, 19-25, 15-12 Friday.
The Antelopes take on Notre Dame de Namur Saturday at 2 p.m.
Against the Urban Knights Wednesday, GCU battled back from a 2-0 deficit before dropping a hard-fought fifth set.
Sophomore outside hitter
Erica Ehlo (Spokane, WA, Lewis and Clark) had a career-high 19 kills and her fifth double-double of the season. She added 15 digs, along with a solo block and two block assists.
Sophomore setter
Kristen Preach (Phoenix, AZ, Xavier Prep) had 42 assists and a career-high six block assists.
Junior libero
Laurann Durbin (Phoenix, AZ, Sunnyslope) had a team-best 19 digs. Junior
Brooke Blomenkamp (Gering, NE, Gering) had nine kills and a .250 attack percentage, her best totals in an Antelope uniform, along with 10 digs. Junior
Stephanie McBride (Newbury Park, CA, Newbury Park) had seven kills, five block assists and four service aces, second most from a 'Lope this season.
Senior
Megan Toth (Phoenix, AZ, Arcadia) had 14 kills and eight digs.
In only three games, senior
Tommyka Henry (Phoenix, AZ, Alhambra) had four block assists and three kills.
In the fourth set, GCU scored eight of the final 10 points to force the deciding game. It trailed 9-4 before rallying to cut the margin to 13-12.
After Saturday's match at NDNU, GCU will play its next six contests at Antelope Gymnasium. The homestand begins with an Oct. 1 PacWest contest with Dominican University of California.
