Grand Canyon freshman outside hitter
Kaitlynn Ausmus (Glendale, AZ, Deer Valley) and sophomore setter
Kristen Preach (Phoenix, AZ, Xavier Prep) were selected to the PacWest Volleyball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll for matches played Sept. 13-19. The awards were announced by the PacWest Media Office Monday.
Both led GCU to a 2-0 week, with wins over Southwestern (3-1) and Embry-Riddle (3-0).
Ausmus ranked seventh in the league in hitting (.377) and eighth in kills per game (3.57). She totaled 25 kills, two aces and a block assist for 27.5 points and averaged 3.93 points per game to rank ninth in the league.
Preach led the league in service aces with 13 and aces per game (1.86). She was fifth in assists per game (9.43) and totaled 66 in two matches.
The team begins Pacific West Conference play Tuesday at Notre Dame de Namur (Belmont, Calif.). It's the first of four conference road games in the Bay Area. GCU takes on NDNU at 7 p.m. On Wednesday and Friday, the 'Lopes face Academy of Art (San Francisco) at 7 p.m. The road trip wraps up with a 2 p.m. Saturday contest at NDNU.
It could be a record-setting week for junior
Laurann Durbin (Phoenix, AZ, Sunnyslope). The team's libero is only 22 digs away from tying the school's all-time record held by Amber LeTarte (1996-99), who finished her career with 1,345.
Also, Preach is only 17 assists away from seventh on the school's all-time list. The spot is currently held by Jenny Collard (1995-96), who ended her 'Lopes career with 1,333.
Grand Canyon swept its four matches with NDNU and AAU last season. It is 9-6 all-time against the Argonauts and has won two straight against the Belmont school. After losing its initial match with the Urban Knights, GCU has won three straight.
Academy of Art boasts this week's PacWest Player of the Week, senior outside hitter Dan Yang, who averaged five kills per game and had a .384 hitting percentage last week.
To open conference play last week, The Knights defeated NDNU 3-1.
Both NDNU matches are available on the B2 Network. A link to live video is on the GCU home page and volleyball page calendars and the volleyball schedule.
