Grand Canyon University freshman libero Trent Bruns (Mission Viejo, CA, Mission Viejo) and sophomore outside hitter Brock Hutchins (Gilbert, AZ, Highland (Hawai'i)) were named second team All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, released by the league office Thursday.
Bruns leads the conference in digs per game (3.65) and is third in digs per conference game (3.07). He owns the top match dig totals for three-game (19), four-game (23) and five-game (28) matches. He also ranks second in the nation in digs per game and leads the nation in total digs (497).
Hutchins is sixth in the league in kills per game (4.01). His 34 kills in a five-game match against Cal Baptist on Feb. 27 is second highest among MIVA players. He ranks eighth in kills per conference game (3.51) and is 23rd in the country in kills.
GCU (14-25) plays its first-ever postseason match Saturday (5 p.m.) when it travels to No. 15 Loyola-Chicago (18-5) in the first round of the MIVA tournament. If GCU win it would take on the Quincy-Lewis victor in the conference semifinals next week.
