Grand Canyon is tied for eighth in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II West Region poll, released Monday.
GCU is 18-15 on the season after splitting a four-game series over the weekend with Cal Poly Pomona. The Antelopes received 18 points and moved up from No. 9 last week.
The NCAA West Region rankings, which determine the participants in the region tournament in May, will begin weekly releases in the coming weeks. The top four teams in the NCAA rankings advance to the region tournament. Of the three region conferences, PacWest, GNAC and CCAA, only the CCAA has an automatic bid.
GCU has a five-game series -- the first four counting in the Pacific West Conference standings -- at Brazell Stadium beginning with a 3 p.m. doubleheader Friday against Hawai'i at Hilo. The teams play two games beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday. A fifth game, not counting in the PWC, will be played Sunday at noon.
All the action from this weekend's series can be heard live on the internet courtesy the B2 Network. To listen go to the link on the baseball schedule page or to the schedule calendar on the home page.
