Durbin closing in on another record

Grand Canyon ends the road portion of its schedule with a 5 p.m. contest against Western New Mexico Tuesday in Silver City, N.M.

GCU beat WNMU 3-2 at Antelope Gymnasium Sept. 7. GCU trailed 2-0 before rallying to win the final three sets. It came back from a 12-7 fifth-set deficit.

Junior libero Laurann Durbin (Phoenix, AZ, Sunnyslope) is only 21 digs away from tying her single season school record of 584 digs. Durbin broke coach Kris (Belcher) Naber’s record as a freshman (530), and then topped her own mark last season.

The regular season ends with two contests against Dixie State Nov. 12-13. The Nov. 12 contest is Senior Night (6 p.m.). GCU will honor its two Class of ’11 members, outside hitter Megan Toth (Phoenix, AZ, Arcadia) and middle hitter Tommyka Henry (Phoenix, AZ, Alhambra, Mesa Community College).
