For the second straight season, Grand Canyon’s women’s basketball team will open the exhibition season against the University of Arizona.
The Antelopes, coming off a 19-8 season, take on the Wildcats at McKale Center 7 p.m. Tuesday.
“It’s going to be a really good test,” said GCU senior guard
Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, AZ, Xavier Prep), the program’s all-time leading scorer, who scored 21 in last year’s 83-56 loss to the Division I program.
Tuesday’s game is the first of two exhibitions against D-I competition. GCU travels to UNLV Nov. 8.
The regular season begins Nov. 12 at the Disney Classic. GCU will play three games in three days, opening with Texas Woman’s University Nov. 12, followed by Alaska-Anchorage (Nov. 13) and UC San Diego (Nov. 14).
Along with the return of Murphy, GCU welcomes back senior guard
Rosalyn Nelson (Phoenix, AZ, Deer Valley), who missed all of last season due to a knee injury. Nelson is the program’s all-time leader in assists and steals.
Arizona finished 14-17 last season and return four starters and seven letterwinners.
