Grand Canyon women's tennis team beat Western New Mexico 7-2 Thursday at Paseo Racquet Center, marking the Antelopes' first NCAA Division II match win in two years.
French native Marie-Caroline Legros made her college debut for the Antelopes, dispatching WNMU's Emily Lampman, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. GCU's Stefanie Griffin beat Izelle Olivier, 4-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (6) at No. 2 singles.
GCU's Stephanie Haldeman beat Stephanie Shelton, 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. Sheila Johnson (pictured) swept Elisa Owen in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
GCU's Amanda Jackson won by default at No. 6 singles, and she and Emily Rios collected a No. 3 doubles win by default as well. Haldeman and Johnson beat Owen and Olivier 8-2 at No. 2 pairs.
Grand Canyon hosts Mesa State College at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Paseo.
