IRVINE, Calif. -- All six members of the Grand Canyon University men's cross country team running in Saturday's Asics/UC Irvine Collegiate and Open at Anteater Recreation Center set season highs.
The Lopes finished 19th. The top four times all exceeded last year's top time in 8K races.
Freshman Chris Lewis (Peoria, Ariz./Raymond S. Kellis) led the way with a time of 27:01.5. He placed 73rd. Freshman Julio Zuniga (Mexico City, Mexico/Trevor Browne), pictured, finished in 27:44.9 and was 102nd.
Chico State won the even. Muluken Baressa of CS San Marcos was the individual winner in 25:06.1.
Senior Miles Lindsay (Chula Vista, Calif./Bristow) placed 172nd with a time of 29:23.7. Sophomore Nick Cross (Apache Junction, Ariz./Apache Junction) finished in 29:33.2 and was 178th.
Lewis, Zuniga, Lindsay and Cross all topped the best 2008 8K time (30:15) set by sophomore Andrew Zappala (Merrimac, Mass./Pentucket Regional).
Sophomore William "TJ" McClarty (El Centro, Calif./Southwest) finished his 8K run in 31:52.2 and freshman Daniel Ontiveros (Phoenix, Ariz./Camelback) clocked in at 32:34.1.
GCU will run in the AZTEC Invitational hosted by San Diego State next Saturday.
