No. 32 Lopes 'close' with high marks at Vandy tournament
SMYRNA, Tenn. -- All season long the name of the game has been producing in the clutch. Finding a way to Tera Boltonknock 'em down as the frames narrowed to a halt.
Sunday, Grand Canyon University's No. 32-ranked women's bowling team closed with a flurry. The Antelopes went out the best way they could.
With a win.
GCU went 2-1 on the final day of the season-ending Vanderbilt Music City Classic, beating No. 19 St. Francis in the best of 7 Baker matches. GCU beat No. 9 Sacred Heart in four straight matches after losing the first to claim the first match victory. The Antelopes lost to No. 20 Jackson State, 4-2, falling in the 10th frame in a 193-173 sixth game loss in the match. But the Lopes responded in their final match of the year, beating No. 21 North Carolina A&T, 4-3. Trailing 3-2 against A&T, GCU won the third game 183-131 before closing on a roll, winning 230-132 in the final game to secure the match.
"I like the way they came together and bowled," Grand Canyon coach Ron Reddic said. "I think they're real happy the way they finished up. To come out and beat Sacred Heart was a heck of an accomplishment."
