Grand Canyon junior left-hander
Chase Frey racked up some national and conference honors following a dominant complete-game shutout in GCU's Friday win at Fresno State.
A list of Frey's honors:
The honor marks the first MW Pitcher of the Week selection in program history, as the Lopes compete in their inaugural season in the conference. Frey joins freshman
Tanner Johns, who previously earned MW Freshman of the Week.
Frey was nearly untouchable Friday night, throwing a a two-hitter with eight strikeouts to one walk in GCU's 3-0 win.

"I felt really good," Frey said. "I came out here, I trusted my stuff, I executed. I had faith in what Banni (interim head coach and pitching coach
Nathan Bannister) was calling. I had faith in my guys on my defense. I just tried to get ahead, get some early contact.
"I know we got studs in the outfield, studs in the infield. They're going to make it happen. If I just get the ball in play, it will end well."
Frey retired seven of nine leadoff hitters, a point Bannister emphasized as the tone-setter for the shutout.
"We talked about execution and, as a pitching staff, our job is to give us a chance to win," Bannister said. "Our offense went out and put runs on the board early, and he pitched with the lead. I think he showed that he got seven of nine leadoff outs, and that usually helps when you're playing good baseball."
More than the individual recognition, Frey said the performance reflected a team ready to build momentum in MW play.
"We've been struggling so far in Mountain West play, but I don't think it's really a skill thing," Frey said. "We just need some momentum and hopefully now this is getting us in the right direction.
"I'm just passionate about these guys, I really love these guys, and I want to win. I want to help put them in good situations."
Frey's win led into a rubber-match win Saturday for GCU to claim its first MW series win.
The Lopes play Arizona State at home Tuesday, when the 6 p.m. game at GCU Ballpark will be televised on 3TV in Arizona and streamed on Mountain West Network.
