Grand Canyon University's 21st-ranked women's swimming team has ad

ded an Arizona state champion during the NCAA National Letter-of-Intent early signing period.

GCU has signed Cottonwood Mingus Union senior Catherine Polito to its already talented squad.

Polito won two state championships at the recent Arizona Class 4A-II Swimming Championships.

She took first place in the 50 Freestyle (24.21) and 100 Freestyle (52.44).

"She's an exciting addition to the team and will be our fastest sprinter coming in," said GCU coach Steve Schaffer. "She has untapped potential and we're really excited to get her here training with us.

Mingus finished seventh as a team. She will join the up and coming program next season. In only its third year of existence, GCU recently earned its first national ranking at No. 21. The men's program is ranked No. 22.
