GCU won by set scores of 23-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-19, 15-8. It was the 'Lopes eighth straight win and 11th in its last 12.
With 35 digs, sophomore Laurann Durbin (pictured, Phoenix, Ariz./Sunnyslope). She has 562 for the season, besting her single-season mark of 530 set during her freshman season. She has 1,092 for her career and moved up to No. 5 on the all-time list, passing Kathy Gorraiz (1990-93), who had 1,024.
Durbin is in pursuit of Krista Jacob (2001-04) for the No. 4 spot. Jacob has 1,122. GCU finishes its regular season Saturday with an 8 p.m. rematch with Dominican. Amber LaTarte (1996-99) with 1,345 is the school's all-time leader.
Senior Dana Edington (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) had a team-high 15 kills to give her 1,023 for her career. With just one match left in her career, she will likely finish as the school's No. 4 all-time attacker. Edington went over the 1,000 mark last week. No. 3 on the GCU all-time list is Sandy Sindorf (1988-91) with 1,061. The all-time record is held by LaTarte with 1,432.
In Friday's win, senior Whitney Estes (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) and freshman Erica Ehlo (Spokane, Wash./Lewis and Clark) each had 12 kills. Freshman setter Kristen Preach (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier Prep) had 47 assists and nine kills. Freshman Katie Peterson (Glendale, Ariz./Mountain Ridge) had four block assists.
