Junior Kayla Poe (Mesa, Ariz./Dobson) scored on a header from freshman Sasha Scott (West Hills, Calif./El Camino Real) assist to give Grand Canyon University a 1-0 victory over Dominican University in a Pacific West Conference contest at GCU Soccer Complex Sunday.
GCU got back to .500 both overall and in the PacWest. The Lopes are 8-8-2 and 5-5-2.
Junior goalkeeper Nicole Fares (Claremont, Calif./Mountain View) earned the shutout victory. She replaced junior Mileena Buchei (Stansbury, Utah/Grantsville), who was injured during pregame warm-ups.
Fares had four saves. GCU had 12 shots and seven shots on goal.Kaylen Jackson (pictured, Tucson, Ariz./Amphitheater) led with five shots and two shots on goal. Poe had three shots and two on goal. Nichole Elias (Tucson, Ariz./Sahuaro),Aislinn Finfrock (Glendale, Ariz./Independence) and Karley Nelson (Orem, Utah/Timpanogos) were all credited with a shot on goal.
GCU has two games, both at home, remaining this season. It will play host to Notre Dame de Namur 5 p.m. Thursday and Academy of Art at noon Saturday.
