Ciliento's Second Straight Hat Trick Leads GCU Over Chaminade![]()
It was the Kyle Ciliento Show again tonight as the Grand Canyon University (GCU) men's soccer team defeated Chaminade, 5-0, at the GCU Soccer Field.
The freshman forward (pictured, Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle) had his second consecutive hat trick for the 17th-ranked Antelopes, who improved their record to 10-1-1, 7-0 in the Pacific West Conference. He scored three goals in GCU's win over Hawai'i-Hilo on Thursday.
Ciliento scored at 22:11 off an assist from senior defender/midfielder Jesse Baker (Lakeside, AZ/Blue Ridge), 38:25 off a ball from junior forward Harvey Martinez (Miami, FL/Coral Gables) and 59:15 off passes from redshirt freshman midfielder Chris Green (Phoenix, AZ/Thunderbird) and redshirt freshman midfielder Andrew Wittig (Willcox, AZ/Willcox). He also assisted on a goal by junior midfielder/forward Juan Mendez (Bolivia/Horizon) at 38:36.
Ciliento now has 15 goals in the 'Lopes' 12 games.
Junior midfielder/forward Roberto Jose de Lima (Brazil/Paradise Valley CC) capped the scoring for GCU by connecting on a penalty kick at 78:44.
Junior goalkeeper Ben Paneccasio (Sydney, Australia/Roseban K College) recorded his PacWest-leading seventh shutout of the season. Chaminade (1-7, 0-5) had just one shot in the game. The 'Lopes had 17.
GCU hosts Seattle Pacific at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the GCU Soccer Field.
