Matt Michael went 4 for 4 with an RBI, 2 R and collected his 2 nd save on the season as Grand Canyon University (5-3) defeated CS Dominguez Hills (3-6) on Friday night at Brazell Stadium by a score of 8-5.
The Toros jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a Jason Klug RBI double scoring Cody Puckett. GCU right jumped back taking the lead in the bottom of the second 3-1 on back to back RBI singles by Michael and catcher
Tristan Blalock.
GCU added two more runs in the fourth and two in the eighth to combat the Toros attempted comeback. Lopes starter
Scott Welch went 6.0 innings striking out 7 to move his record to (3-0) on the season. Toros starter Ryan Owen gave up 6 runs (5 earned) on 10 hits picking up his first loss of the season.
All 9 starters for GCU collected a base hit for the second straight game as the Lopes collected 15 hits in the game.
Matt Henne added his first home run of the season while Blalock collected 3 hits and
Craig Daniel got 2 hits to pace the victory.
Klug and Dustin Hicks each had 3 hits to pace the Toros 12 hit attack.
These two teams meet again tomorrow for a double header at Brazell Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
