Don Reed spent one season as Grand Canyon's acting head coach in 1960-61.
Reed was appointed a one-year fill-in for Dave Brazell, who was taking a one-year leave of absence from both basketball and baseball coaching for graduate study at Arizona State.
Reed, a native of Sweetwater, Texas, led Grand Canyon to a 12-10 mark in his one season.
Reed was active in athletics while a student at Wayland College. He played on both the basketball and baseball teams. He had been active in the operation of a college physical education intramural program. He served as coach at one of the boys' clubs in the Fort Worth area.
During his college days, he was elected to Who's Who Among Colleges and Universities, Campus Who's Who and the American College Student Leaders of 1953. He was also student body president, most outstanding senior and class favorite while attending college.
