Duo combined for 3 goals in GCU’s 7-2 win last week
A pair of freshmen Lopes swept the Mountain West weekly men's soccer awards Monday, as announced by the conference prior to kick-off against Houston Christian.
Arnau Camaño was named Offensive Player of the Week while Matas Jokubaitis earned the Defensive Player of the Week title. Both were honored as co-freshmen of the week.
It took Camaño less than three minutes to score his first of two goals in GCU's 7-2 victory over Oakland Sept. 3. The Tona, Spain, native added to his tally later in the first half to give GCU a 3-0 advantage.
His goal count now leads the team, along with his team-high four points. For the season, Camaño has nine shots, four shots on goal, a .556 shot on goal percentage with three starts in four games played.
Jokubaitis played 83 minutes in the record-breaking victory and scored his first collegiate goal in the 79th minute. Finishing with one shot and one shot on goal, Jokubaitis was one of six goal scorers on the evening for GCU.
The Edmonton, Alberta, Canada native is fourth on the team in minutes played, making four starts across four games on the back line.
GCU continues its home stand and hosts Houston Christian tonight at 7 p.m., followed by a visit from nationally ranked UC Santa Barbara Saturday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
