SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Grand Canyon fell 4-0 to No. 53 San Diego State on Friday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center, with the host Aztecs claiming the doubles point and securing three straight singles courts to clinch the match.
San Diego State took control early by winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to grab the opening point, while the No. 3 match between freshman duo Amalia Suciu and
Hams Metwally was left unfinished.
In singles, the Aztecs extended their lead with straight-set wins on Courts 5 and 6 before clinching the dual at No. 1 singles, where sophomore
Bella Crossman pushed to a second-set tiebreak in a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) defeat.
 Several other courts were competitive but unfinished, including sophomore
Karina Hofbauer forcing a third set at No. 3 and junior
Gala Arangio in a tight second set at No. 2 when play was halted.
The Lopes showed fight across multiple positions despite the final score, competing closely against a ranked opponent on the road as the regular season nears its conclusion.
With the loss GCU secures the five seed in the Mountain West Tennis Championships. They are set to play on Wednesday as they will take on twelve seed Fresno State.
