SAN DIEGO – Grand Canyon fell 4-0 to No. 53 San Diego State on Friday at Aztec Tennis Center, with the host Aztecs claiming the doubles point and securing three straight singles courts to clinch the match.
San Diego State took control early by winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to grab the opening point, while the No. 3 match featuing GCU freshman duo Amalia Suciu and
Hams Metwally was left unfinished.
In singles, the Aztecs extended their lead with straight-set wins on Courts 5 and 6 before clinching the dual at No. 1 singles, where Lopes sophomore
Bella Crossman pushed the match to a second-set tiebreak in a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) defeat.
 Several other courts were competitive but unfinished, including GCU sophomore
Karina Hofbauer forcing a third set at No. 3 and Lopes junior
Gala Arangio reaching a tight second set at No. 2 when play was halted.
The Lopes showed fight across multiple positions despite the final score, competing closely against a ranked opponent on the road as the regular season concluded.
GCU secured the No. 5 seed for the Mountain West Championship in Las Vegas, where the Lopes will play No. 12 seed Fresno State on Wednesday.
