TUCSON – The spring season officially swung into action Monday at Tucson Country Club as Grand Canyon women's golf competed in Day 1 of the Thunderbird Intercollegiate, hosted by Arizona.
The first day ended with just one hole to play in the second round for a handful of teams.
DAY 1 RESULTS
The tournament is the first of six regular-season tournaments scheduled this spring and the first of five in Arizona.
The 15-team field in Tucson consisted of seven teams in the top 50 of the Clippd Scoreboard rankings, five of which were in the top 25. That includes No. 1 Stanford, which leads the event at 5 under par and is the only team with an under-par scorecard.
GCU is 14th overall and will be paired with Charlotte and Marshall for the final day pairing on Tuesday.
Lopes junior
Lena Tremouille highlighted her team's day and is 4 over par and 1 over with one hole to play in her second round. Tremouille is tied for 17th and had a stretch of 12 consecutive holes (No. 13 to No. 6) without a bogey. Her 25 pars for the tournament are tied for sixth among the 79 competitors.
GCU freshman
Rosie Maguire had the shot of the day, a chip in from the fringe on the par-5,13th hole for eagle. She is one of five players in the field with an eagle to her name.
The third and final round will be played Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
