For the second consecutive week, freshman
Alexis Vakasiuola was named Mountain West Golfer and Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference Thursday afternoon.
Vakasiuola is coming off a career best tournament, where she led the Lopes to first place in the GCU Invitational on their home course in Phoenix. The first year began the tournament with a 2 over 74 before catching fire with a 7 under 65 second round and 6 under 66 in the third and final round.
The second round 65 consisted of seven birdies and an eagle with a front nine score of 29. The 65 is tied with four other Lopes for lowest 18-hole score in program history.
She finished the tournament 11 under, one of three Lopes who placed in the top five.
From San Tan Valley and a Combs High School alum, Vakasiuola nearly matched her record tying score in the third round, notching five birdies and an eagle to close out a tournament that saw GCU win by 30 strokes.
Vakasiuola swept the two weekly conference awards February 19, adding to her accolade list that also includes Mountain West Freshman of the Month for October 2025.
Vakasiuola and the Lopes next head north to Sedona to partake in the Red Rocks Invitational hosted by Northern Arizona. The three-day tournament begins Friday, March 15 at Oak Creek Country Club.
