GCU faces 1st-place Aztecs on Wednesday night on MW Network

Grand Canyon has won two consecutive Mountain West road contests and aims to make it three straight at San Diego State on Wednesday night.Â

GCU is coming off its second straight MW road victory Saturday, following a win at San José State by winning at Boise State to move to 2-2 in conference play. The loss for the Broncos was their first home loss in nine games at Viejas Arena.
The Lopes' second double-double of the season came Saturday at Boise State from senior Anisa Jeffries, who pulled down a season-high 14 rebounds and added 13 points in an 87-76 win. Jeffries grabbed seven offensive boards against the Broncos and is second on the team in rebounds per game (5.1) and offensive boards (25).
Sophomore guard Chloe Mann is the team leader in points at 14.7 per game, totaling double digits in 11 of 14 contests. Mann has been exceptional from the free throw line, shooting 88.5% and making 54 of 61 attempts. Her free throw percentage ranks 23rd in the nation and leads all Mountain West players.
Junior guard Julianna LaMendola is the team's leading rebounder at 6.1 boards per game. LaMendola is pulling down 7.8 rebounds per game against MW competition, with 31 total in four MW games.. She had back-to-back 10 rebound showings vs. UNLV and San Jose State and has eight games with six or more rebounds this season.
GCU's scoring production comes from all over, including the bench that is averaging 24.2 points per game. The points off the bench rank second in the conference.
Since moving into the starting lineup over the last three games, freshman Ines Zounia has shined, averaging 9.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Zounia has scored in double figures twice in that span, including a career-high 13 at San José State.Â
GCU has 158 offensive boards this season, 32 more than their opponents. Its 11.3 offensive rebounds per game are fifth best in the MW.
THIS GAME
Coming off its second straight Mountain West road victory, GCU continues on the road and faces San Diego State on Wednesday evening at Viejas Arena.Â
SDSU comes into the game at 4-0 in MW play and tied for first in the conference. It is 6-1 at home, with its last home loss coming Nov. 19. GCU defeated Boise State on Saturday after the Broncos entered that matchup 8-0 at home.Â
This is the first-ever meeting between the two squads.Â
SCOUTING SAN DIEGO STATE
One of three teams undefeated in MW play, San Diego State enters 10-3 overall with a 4-0 conference showing. The Aztecs have won six straight games since a Nov. 24 loss to Penn State in the Bahamas.
SDSU ranks among the top three in the MW in multiple categories, including turnovers per game (23rd in nation, second in MW) and assist-to-turnover ratio (60th in nation, second in MW).
Nala Williams holds a 1.87 assist-to-turnover ratio, second best in the league. She is also third in assists per game (3.3) while averaging 9.7 points and 4.4 rebounds.Â
Naomi Panganiban leads the squad at 12.9 ppg with 20 made 3-pointers and 24-of-26 accuracy on free throws.Â
SDSU is holding teams to 58.8 points per game, third best in the conference. During its six-game winning streak, it has held five of six opponents to fewer than 60 points.
The Aztecs are not afraid to shoot the 3, averaging 25 attempts from 3-point range per contest (41st in the nation). They make 8.5 of their 3s per outing to rank 37th in the country and first n the Mountain West.Â
