TUCSON, Ariz. – Grand Canyon men's golf began the spring season Monday, finishing 1 1/2 rounds of the N.I.T. before play was halted due to darkness at Omni Tucson National Resort.
GCU is 7 over par for the tournament through 11 holes of the second round. The Lopes and the rest of the field will conclude the second round Tuesday and immediately finish the tournament with the third and final round.
Host school No. 30 Arizona leads the way at 28 under, followed by No. 5 Texas at 27 under and Saint Mary's at 15 under.
GCU is one of three Mountain West teams competing in the N.I.T. at the Omni Tucson, which is home to the Mountain West Championship on May 3-5.
The Lopes shot 4 over in the first round as four players carded 1-over rounds of 73. GCU junior
Gavin O'Neill leads the squad at even par (tied for 36th) after starting the second round at 1 under.
Seven of the 13 N.I.T. teams are ranked in the top 75 via the Clippd Scoreboard rankings, including five in the top 30. GCU entered the day at No. 84.
