Grand Canyon returns home from a lengthy stretch of road competition to host its first home WAC series. GCU and Seattle U play a three-game series beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.
The series will be streamed on ESPN+.
3 THINGS TO KNOW
- THE STREAK: GCU has won its last 16 WAC series consecutively and 29 of its last 31. The Lopes have won seven consecutive WAC rubber matches, including last weekend's series-deciding victory at Abilene Christian. GCU's last loss in a WAC series came back in 2023 when Seattle U won two of three in Phoenix. The Lopes will look to avenge that series loss against the Redhawks by pushing their streak to 17 this weekend.
- RPI RANK: GCU's recently completed stretch of nine road games featured some elite competition, including a pair of top-10 teams in Oregon and Oregon State. The Lopes feature a top-75 strength of schedule nationally, leading to a No. 56 RPI ranking.
- FORMULAS FOR SUCCESS: Two key numbers indicate whether a Lopes win is likely this season. The Lopes are 8-1 when their starting pitcher tosses at least five innings. GCU is 10-1 when it out-hits its opponent.
SCOUTING SEATTLE U
Seattle U began WAC play last weekend with a tightly contested series loss to Utah Valley. The Wolverines won a blowout opener before the Redhawks recovered to win the second game. In the rubber match, Seattle U fell 10-9.
The Redhawks have dropped weekend series to Loyola Marymount, Washington State and Utah Valley while going winless in a four-game weekend at the Tony Gwynn Classic. Seattle U has series wins over Pacific and Coppin State.
Seattle U hits .268 (182nd nationally, seventh in the WAC) and has a staff earned run average of 7.33 (217th nationally, last in WAC).
