Bogle, Holmer go unbeaten on the road

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The No. 14 Grand Canyon beach volleyball team capped off a successful Sunday at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex, defeating Houston Christian 4-1 before edging out No. 17 Washington in a tight 3-2 battle.

GCU started the day with a strong performance against Houston Christian, winning four of five flights. The Lopes secured straight-set victories in Flights 2, 4, and 5, with Ines Piret and Rhea Kohl delivering a 22-20, 21-13 win in Flight 2. Karynn Garrow and Sophia Hladyniuk controlled their match in Flight 4, earning a 21-17, 21-17 victory, while Regan Holmer and Madi Bogle added a 21-19, 21-13 win in Flight 5. Becca Drake and Jessica Drake battled through a three-set match in Flight 3, clinching the 4-1 dual win with a 21-16, 17-21, 15-13 victory.

In the afternoon match, GCU found themselves in a back-and-forth contest with No. 17 Washington. Garrow and Hladyniuk secured a 21-14, 21-18 win, and Holmer and Bogle followed with a 21-17, 21-19 victory. Washington responded with wins in Flights 1 and 3, but the match was already decided thanks to Flight 2. Piret and Kohl battled to a 23-21, 21-16 victory to seal the 3-2 dual win for Grand Canyon.

GCU will look to build on the success when it heads for East Meets West in Austin, Texas March 21-22.
